I'M MARIA TERESA

 

I grew up dancing in Mexico and have worked in the fitness industry since 1996.

I have had the privilege to teach group fitness to thousands of enthusiasts around the world, and have trained over 10,000 group fitness instructors in-person and online. 

I am passionate about women's well-being and have completed a certification in holistic health as well as gut health coaching. 

I have dedicated the last 27 years of life to helping others move their bodies in a joyful way.

My purpose is to help you live your best life through exercise and lifestyle choices.

I now live in New Zealand with my husband and two children, and serve my local community in person and my online community to get them moving with me. 

MY JOURNEY

  • Started teaching group fitness classes in my families gym in Mexico in 1996. I was only 15 yrs old.
  • Managed fitness facilities in Mexico and the UK.
  • Helped launched the iconic Zumba® program in New Zealand and Australia in 2009.
  • Travelled extensively across the Australasia Pacific region training thousands of Zumba® instructors and conducting Zumba® master classes. 
  • Inducted to the Roll of Honour by former Fitness Australia now AusActive in 2016 for my contribution to the fitness industry. 
  • Co-founded My Group Move in 2018, a platform that trains and supports group fitness instructors.
  • Frequent speaker and presenter at industry conferences and workshops.
  • Launched a holistic health program: 18 days to well-being with my sister Eliza Stone in 2021. Bringing together nutrition, movement and well-being education to support women in their health quest.
  • In January 2022, Powerful YOU was born out of demand from my community. It's my answer to being your exercise mentor in the comfort of your own home. This online exercise program connects women from all over the world to train together.
  • In 2023, I was nominated as a finalist for the Exercise New Zealand Educator of Year, where it was an honour to be celebrated amongst my NZ colleagues.
